Is Security Guard Training all the same throughout the State of Florida?
No. Not all security schools provide the same level of training. The state requires all security schools to cover a 40-hour security training outline, but each school is responsible for delivering its curriculum of training. So the security guard training is not standardized and different at every security school. Many security training schools throughout the state offer this training through 40 hours of boring old videos and barely cover the minimum standards. We have set the standards and have the best reputation for security guard training in the state! Our founder was appointed by the state for a 4-year term to represent security training and to help raise the standards for security guards. All our instructors all come from security backgrounds in the Military and Law Enforcement. Read our student reviews

Security License Florida
In the state of Florida, anyone who wants to work for armed or unarmed security services must have a security license. When on duty, security personnel must have a corporate ID and their Florida security license with them. The license must be given to the guard in accordance with state security legislation if they are law enforcement officers or state employees who work for the Division of Licensing.
The Division of Licensing is in charge of the security license. Anybody who works for a security company that offers security guard services must have a security license. Private security guards who work without a license risk fines for both themselves and the company that hired them. Without a license, it is illegal to work in the private security industry.
Security Guard License in Florida
Most security officers simply possess an unarmed security guard license in Florida. This is because more security guard jobs require them to do their jobs without a gun. Due to the greater risk of using a gun, armed security services often charge more per hour. Also, an armed security license earns a guard more money than one with only an unarmed security license.
In Florida, everyone who works in the security business must have either an unarmed security license or a statewide gun license. To get a security guard license in Florida, you need 40 hours of formal security training. The training covers emergency procedures, basic medical knowledge, how to handle a range of situations that security guards might face on the job, and Florida security law.
What is Class D License?
You need a Class D license in Florida to work in the private security industry. Florida law requires 40 hours of professional security training. Any security guard firm that offers contract services must use licensed security guards to carry out these services. Without a license, a security guard cannot perform security duties for a security firm. For the security guard to be able to continue working, the license must be renewed before it expires. It is good for two years.
Security Guard Card
In the US, more and more security officers need licenses to do their jobs, and some states require a security guard card for certain jobs. In jurisdictions including Florida, Texas, California, New York, Virginia, Minnesota, and Georgia, security guards are required to hold a license. Texas requires a level 3 security license, and Florida requires a security guard D license. In Florida, candidates are required to finish 40 hours of security training and pass a written test. Florida security guards are required to have a Class D license as well as a statewide weapons license if they are carrying a weapon. You require 28 hours of security training to be eligible for an armed license.

To conduct a security license check of a D license, licensees can use the Division of licensing website. A security license in Florida is valid for two years and, if not renewed within 90 days of expiration, will require the license holder to reapply with a new Class D License application. If a person is no longer providing security services and seeking to see the status of their license, they can do a security license check through the state’s public records on their website.
Licensees have a couple of options to check the status of their security licenses. First, the security guard can call the Division of licensing at 850-245-5665 to talk to a state representative to check the status of their security license. Another option for licensees who ask “How do I check the status of my security license”, by accessing the state’s website and conducting a public records check. A pubic record check for the security license can be found at the following link https://www.fdacs.gov/Business-Services/Private-Security-Licenses/Search-for-a-Licensee. The state only keeps a licensee record on file for four years before purging the data of expired licenses of security guards. Any person can conduct a license check of a security guard or security agency in the State of Florida.
Like in Florida, many states have security training requirements. Unfortunately, Florida does not have any reciprocity with NY regarding its training for the security license. NY requires 8 hours of pre-training to be eligible for the NY license and then an additional 16 hours of on-job training in a period of 90 days after acquiring the NY security license. As you can see, NY state only requires 24 hours in total of security guard training compared to Floridas 40 hours security license training requirements. If a NY Security guard is moving to Florida, then they will be required to complete the entire 40 hours of security training to be eligible for the Florida class d security license. Florida will allow those with a security license in NY to work security guard services if the state declares a state emergency for a hazard such as a hurricane. Those with a NY Security license or from another state will still be required to get permission to perform security services in Florida during a state of emergency, and the agency that employs them will be required to submit their information to the Divison of Licensing.
